Midday Forex: Leu gets modest lift



The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.2254 lei against euro down 0.16% from yesterday when it touched this year’s high.
Yesterday, the central bank set an intraday rate of 4.2322 lei versus euro, the highest since December 16, 2009, when a euro was sold for 4.2459 lei.

After growing from 4.23 to 4.2130 lei/euro in the morning trade the national currency wiped out the early gains and dropped to an intraday level of 4.2240 lei/euro.

In the region, the Polish zloty traded between 4.0530 and 4.0790 while the Hungarian forint dropped from 277.80 to 280.19 forints/euro after moving higher in the morning.

Versus the U.S. dollar, the National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 3.4350 lei/dollar, 0.60% above Tuesday level of 1.23 lei/U.S. dollar.
