Midday Forex: Leu grows modestly against euro
The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.2234 lei/euro today, 0.09% below yesterday level, as the leu gained in the early inter-bank trades but lost steam at noon.
On Tuesday, the central bank set a reference rate of 4.2274 lei/euro.
The leu grew from 4.23 lei/euro to 4.2180 units against euro in the morning but dropped in midday trading to 4.2250 units/euro.
In the region, the Polish zloty opened lower at 4.0740 units/euro, but increased afterwards to 4.0530 zloty/euro, only to wipe out gains at midday when it fell to 4.0660 zloty/euro. The Hungarian forint increased from opening rate of 280.06 to 279.65 units/euro, but dropped to 280.35 units/euro at noon.
Versus the US dollar, the National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 3.4369 lei/dollar, 0.18% below Tuesday level of 3.4432 lei/dollar.
