Tranche from IMF at risk

The first vice president of PDL, Teodor Stolojan, said today that the International Monetary Fund assistance could be delayed due to the Constitutional Court overturn of the 15% pension cut measures, as the Government will have to submit an additional memorandum with new corrective actions to bring public finances on the mend.
“The financial assistance from the International Monetary Fund could be delayed. The Government will have to prepare an additional memorandum with alternatives to the pension cut measure. Starting from the announced actions, the Government continued to cut back on spending, and coupled with these measures, the impact of the Constitutional Court ruling could be offset”, said Stolojan.

He added “the Government didn’t have a choice. But now, a tax hike shouldn’t be a solution”, said the leader of the liberal party.

The Constitutional Court ruled that the 15% cut in retirement benefits was not constitutional, but OKed the 25% reduction in public wages.
