Midday Forex: Leu hits new all-time low against euro
The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.3688 RON/EUR – a new record low for the national currency, while RON/USD rate dropped to 3.5617.
The reference rate set by the National Bank of Romania climbed 0.38% from yesterday to 4.3688.
USD/RON rate dropped 0.22% to 3.5617, from Tuesday historic high of 3.5697 RON/USD. The Romanian leu fell 2% against U.S. dollar on Tuesday to 3.5967 from Monday rate.
Analysts anticipate stabilization for the Romanian leu or even a recovery of the national currency on a short term.
In the region, currencies grew against their European peer. The Polish zloty grew from 4.155 PLN/EUR to 4.1306 PNL/EUR. The Hungarian forint climbed 0.59% to 285 HUF/EUR in midday trading after opening at 287.4 HUF/EUR.
