Midday Forex: Leu grows 1% against euro
The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.2613 lei against euro, down 1.01% from Friday, and 3.4001 lei against dollar, down 1.20%.
The national currency steadily in the interbank market since the opening of currency trading, from 4.2980 to 4.25 units versus euro, as the International Monetary Fund approved the disbursement of the fifth tranche of €913 million to Romania.
In the region, the Polish zloty increased in the morning from 4.1550 to 4.1118 zloty/euro but fell afterwards to 4.1235 zloty/euro. The Hungarian forint strengthened from 286.45 to 284.45 units versus euro, but dropped to 285.70 units/euro at noon.
For the US dollar, the reference rate set by the National Bank of Romania dropped Monday to 3.4001 lei/dollar, down 1.20% from 3.4414 lei/dollar. On June 29, NBR set an all-time high reference rate of 3.5697 lei/dollar.
