Romanias trade deficit stood at 950 million in May



Romania recorded a trade deficit of 3.982 billion lei (€957 million) in May this year, 702.3 million lei (€174.4 million) higher than year-ago period.
Exports totaled 12.46 billion lei in May (€2.992 billion) according to National Institute of Statistics estimates, while imports totaled 16.443 billion lei (€3.949 billion). Compared to the same period of 2009, exports increased by 28.8% when expressed in RON (29.5% when expressed in EUR) while imports increased 26.9% in RON (27.7% in EUR).

Compared to the previous month, May exports rose 4.8% when expressed in RON (3.5% in EUR), while imports increased by 6.4% in RON (and 5.1% in EUR).

Romanian economical agents’ exports in Jan-May 2010 period totaled 57.055 billion lei (€13.819 billion), while imports stood at 72.747 billion lei (€17.620 billion). Compared to the same period of 2009, exports increased by 21.5% when expressed in RON (24.8% in EUR), while imports increased by 14.4% in RON (17.5% in EUR).

Romania’s Jan-May deficit narrowed 923 million lei (€125.3 million) year-on-year to 15.692 billion lei (€3.8 billion).
