Midday Forex: Leu weakens further against euro
The National Bank of Romania set a reference rate of 4.2596 lei/euro, 0.04% higher than yesterday, as the leu hovered near 4.26 lei/euro in the morning.
On Tuesday, the central bank set a reference rate of 4.2580 lei/euro, 0.26% higher than Monday.
Versus the US dollar, the reference rate set by the National Bank of Romania dropped 0.96% to 3.3519 lei/dollar, from 3.3845 lei/dollar on Tuesday. On June 29, the national currency dropped to a record low against its US counterpart, to 3.5967 lei/dollar.
In the region, the Polish zloty grew in the morning from 4.0705 units/euro to 4.0540 units/euro, but dropped afterwards to 4.0630. The Hungarian forint increased from 277.90 units/euro to 276.60 forints/euro, but fell to the opening rates at noon.
