BCR Banca pentru Locuinte inks over 165,000 contracts in H1



BCR Banca pentru Locuinte, subsidiary of Romania's largest lender by assets Banca Comerciala Romana (BCR), part of the Austrian group Erste, closed more than 165,000 contracts of saving-crediting for the housing field in the first half, amounting to 4.6 billion lei, the bank announced.

The officials of BCR Banca pentru Locuinte sustain the first semester of 2010 was a good period for the bank, despite the difficult economic context.

The credits granted by the lender have fix interests of 5-6 percent, depending on the tariff chosen, according to the bank's president, Alexandru Ciobanu.

The banks for dwellings foreseen the saving of an amount that will represent the deposit for acquiring a house, on medium term, and then taking a loan from the bank to cover the rest of the money. Only two such lenders activate on the local market, belonging to the groups Erste-BCR and Raiffeisen.

This saving-crediting system had a moderate success since it was launched in Romania, but during the crisis the number of clients rose from 110,000 at the end of 2007 and 150,000 in 2008 at 264,000 at the end of 2009. Some 400,000 clients are estimated for the end of 2010.
