Airline carrier Tarom carried 13.9% fewer passengers in January – May 2009, versus prior-year period, down to 565,000 passengers, according to data provided by Association of European Airlines.
In the same period, Tarom recorded the lowest load factor of all airline carriers, of as low as 48.5%, much below the 72.2% average.
In May, Tarom carried 127,000 passengers, down 9.7% year-on-year. The load factor stood at 50.5% in May 2009. Tarom reported revenues of 404 million dollars (288.5 million dollars) in 2008, 10% higher than a year earlier. Tarom carried 1.98 million passengers in 2008.
The traffic of European carriers dropped 7.9% in May, while in the cargo segment, it dropped 19.8%.
The preliminary data for June indicate a 7.5% decrease in traffic in the first half of the month and a 5.5% decrease in the second half.
