Hewlett – Packard Romania PC maker recorded sales of 55.7 million euros in 2007 and a profit of 8.3 million euros. In 2008, profit fell to 5.44 million euros.
As for its fierce competitor, the local subsidiary of US-based tech vendor IBM said its profit went up to 4.02 million euros in 2008 versus 3.6 million euros a year earlier.
IBM’s sales followed the same upward trend throughout 2008. Two years ago, IBM posted sales of 45 million euros, and increased to 51 million in 2008.
Hewlett-Packard, the world’s largest PC maker reported third-quarter profit that met analysts’ estimates after job cuts and other expense reductions that compensated sagging technology demand.
IBM Romania said it would invest 130,000 dollars in the development of 52 computers with its KidSmart technology for children aged three to seven.
HP and IBM report growing sales in 2008
Local subsidiaries of tech industry heavyweights, HP and IBM reported for 2008 growth in sales over a year earlier, according to their statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Finance. HP Romania took the lead with 60 million euros in sales and IBM following close behind with 51 million euros.
