The biggest declines were observed in Bucharest-Ilfov (-3015 permits), Center (-1974 permits), South-Muntenia (-1884) and North-East (-1797 permits).
According to INS data, 3,509 construction permits were issued in December 2009, 1.3% more than November 2009, and 9.2% less than in December 2008. 67.2% of the permits were for rural areas.
Broken down by regions, number of permits increased in: South-Muntenia (+63 permits), West (+38 permits), South-West Oltenia (+31 permits), North-East (+28 permits) and South-East (+10 permits), and dropped in: Center (-65 permits), Bucharest-Ilfov (-41 permits) and North-West (-18 permits).
In December 2009, municipalities issued 356 fewer permits for residential buildings than a year earlier. The highest drops were observed in Center (-172 permits), Bucharest-Ilfov (-73 permits), North-West (-71 permits) and South-Muntenia (-37 permits).
Romania building permits fell 20% in 2009
Municipalities issued 48,833 construction permits for home buildings in 2009, 201.1% below 2008 levels, data from the National Institute of Statistics show.
