NBR lifts inflation forecasts from 2.6% to 3.5%

The National Bank of Romania revised its inflation forecast for 2010 to 3.5%, the central bank governor, Mugur Isarescu said earlier today. NBR had expected an inflation rate of 2.6%.

Isarescu stressed that the central bank’s inflation forecast for 2011 was 2.7%, and that the target for next year was 3% with +/-1 tolerance band.

The governor added that a narrower currency fluctuation would help the economy.

“The currency fluctuations should not be too large. We encourage them without intervening decisively in the market”, said Isarescu.
