The Financial Guard seized around 22.3 tons of raw tobacco at Giurgiu border crossing point that was shipped in two trucks coming from Bulgaria, the National Fiscal Administration Authority said.
Trucks were intercepted at Giurgiu border crossing and the drivers presented the documents that under the name of a Romanian economic operator.
“Since there is no legal justification for the shipment of such a large amount of tobacco, and since there are clues that it would have been used in illicit cigarette manufacturing, the shipment was seized and further inspections are carried so as to identify the entire network”, the institution said.
The verifications found that the economic agent is specialized in furniture manufacturing, and his representative declared in writing that he hadn’t requested or had been aware of the tobacco transaction in question.
