BNR established a reference exchange rate of 4.1835 lei per euro in the previous session.

The leu soared from 4.1950 to 4.1830 over the euro on opening and then waved close to 4.19. Banks were buying an euro with 4.1875 lei and selling it for 4.1925 lei at 1:30 p.m.

In the region, the Polish zloty dropped from 4.3777 to 4.4178 over the euro, while the Hungarian forint slipped from 285.80 to 288.26 against Europe's single currency.

BNR's reference exchange rate also indicates a 0.50 percent decline of the national currency versus the U.S. dollar to 3.1603 lei per dollar, from 3.1447 in the previous session.

On international markets, the American currency advanced gradually from 1.3346 to 1.3255 against the euro and at 1:30 p.m. Romania's hour, the euro was traded for 1.3268 dollars.
