The good performance of smartphone products was driven by the diversification of the product offerings as well as of prices, which followed a downward trend, according to Mihnea Serbu, senior product manager Orange Romania.

Therefore, year-over-year sales of smartphone products climbed 40%.

“In the context of current economic woes, consumers became more selective and have shifted focus as to optimize tech spending. Shoppers are now looking for high quality to price ratio, seeking a high level of performance for a fair price”, Mihnea Serbu told Wall-Street.

As for the future performance of the premium phone industry, Orange’s senior product manager says it too early to estimate.

“Given the positive signals in the first quarter, we hope the market will follow the same trend. Taking this into consideration, Orange has continued the diversification process of its product offerings by delivering the new Toshiba TG01, the first 1Ghz Snapdragon-powered phone with the widest touchscreen available on a model (WVGA 800x480 pixels).

The smartphone runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 and is oriented to offer enhanced multimedia experience and fast mobile internet browsing.
