Alpiq acquires Romanian EHOL

Aare-Tessin Ltd. for Electricity, member of Alpiq Holding Ltd has acquired the local energy provider EHOL Distribution.

The transaction was closed on July 1, 2009, the parties refusing to disclose the value.

EHOL administers large portfolio of industrial customers in Romania. With this takeover, Alpiq has become one of the top three end-customer providers in Romania and has further consolidated its position in the south-east European electricity market.

As a result of the acquisition of Buzmann Industries in 2007, Alpiq Holding Ltd has broadened its sales operations in Romania. The Swiss-based electricity supplier has acquired the Romanian EHOL Distribution on July 1. The contractual partners have agreed not to disclose the price of the transaction.

EHOL Distribution, headquartered in Bucharest has a headcount of 13 and provides electricity to medium and large industrial customers and distribution companies.

EHOL has a significant market share in end-client segment and provides also energy services in the field of metering data provisions.

In the end-customer market, EHOL will operate together with Buzmann Industries, active in medium industrial customers. Alpiq’s entire sales portfolio in Romania will be optimized in cooperation with Atel Romania, Alpiq’s Romanian wholesale trader.
