Companies that offered 13th month pay last year are now in the position to remove it from their seasonal benefits package for December 2009, but they will adopt a performance-based compensation system.
Moreover, 54.6% of the respondents said they would give Christmas bonuses this year, compared to 93.5% in 2008. As for how fat the pay packet will be, employers have resorted to tax-deductible gift vouchers that worth a maximum 150 lei. The average Christmas bonus offered in 2008 was around 605 lei per employee, while this year, it is expected to be as small as 230 lei per employee.
65% of the employers who participated in the survey said this year’s Christmas benefits package will consists in gift vouchers, two thirds more than last year, when over 75% of the companies gave cash bonuses.
The 86 companies that participated in the survey are from private sector, 37% of which are based in Bucharest. The main fields of activity are automotive, health, financial and services.
Established in 2001, Paylogic operates in pay calculation outsourcing and personnel management. The company is based in Bucharest and has four other offices in the country, in Cluj, Timisoara, Sibiu and Medias.
