Cosmote Romania reported a 80% growth of client base while Romtelecom broadened its users base for ADSL and DTH internet service, compensating the losses on the landline telephony segment.
Cosmote: 10.6 million euros operating profit in first nine months

Cosmote Romania, third biggest mobile telecommunication network on the Romanian market, member of Greek-based OTE, reported a 93% growth of turnover in first nine months from last year’s 203 million euros.

The company reported 10.6 million euros operating profit, equivalent of 5% of overall revenue.

“In first nine months, Cosmote reported earning before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization of 10.6 million euros compared to a27.4 million euros loss a year ago. Furthermore, third-quarter earnings recorded a three-digit growth, namely 108%, from last year’s third quarter”, said Costas Apostolou, CFO Cosmote Romania.

Cosmote Romania totaled 5.24 million clients base in September 30, up 86% from last year.

“Cosmote continues to register the biggest user addition rate in the market, in first nine months this year, the number of new users amounted to 1.63 million,” Cosmote’s CFO added.

Number of contract-based users have 18% share in overall customer base of Cosmote.

In first nine months, the company’s average revenue per user amounted to 5 euros/month, while the postpaid revenues soared 129% and prepaid cards revenues surged by 105%.

Massive user addition for Internet and DTH services wipes out the major exits from landline

Romtelecom, the biggest landline telecommunication operator in the Romanian market reported 656.4 million euros turnover, up 1.1% from last year, when the company posted 649 million euros.

For first nine months, the landline operator reported 14.4 million euros operating loss from last year’s 33.1 million euros operating profit.

User base of Romtelecom shrunk by 1.1%, from 3 million down to 2.97 million customers.
As for ADSL internet services, the operator marked a 135% raise of users number up to 567,000 from last year, when it reported 242,000 client portfolio.

Germanos: We are about to top our full-year expectations

Germanos Telecom Romania reported a 50% growth in terms of mobile phone replacement, and the company estimates a major growth in sales in December.

“We are very pleased we have maintained our leading position in the telecom retail in third quarter, both in store number and the net growths. The summer season was a good period for Germanos, and also for the entire GSM retail industry, as the sales have considerably raised at all our products range”, said Dimitris Blatsios (photo), managing director at Germanos Telecom Romania.
