Building materials producer Baumix, with annual turnover of €8.5 million said the market fell 30% in the first quarter, compared to the same period of last year, on lack of new construction projects in 2009 that would have generated sales in 2010.
“The first quarter 2009 sales were buoyed by the construction projects started in 2008, and the extent of the damage caused by the market crisis has been fairly limited in the period”, said the representatives of Baumix.
The construction market dropped 23.1% year-on-year in March, but rose 2.3% month-on-month, marking the biggest decline in the European Union, according to data provided by Eurostat.
The company recorded a turnover of roughly 36 million lei in 2009, 9% below year-ago level.
