Rail industry still not affected by recession
For the first quarter of fiscal year 2010, Bombardier Transportation revenues totaled 2.3 billion dollars and EBIT reached 125 million dollars, or 5.6% of revenues, compared to 118 million dollars, or 4.9%, for the same period last fiscal year.
“For the rail industry, the fundamentals remain strong and the recession is not currently expected to have a significant impact”, said Pierre Beaudoin President and Chief Executive Officer, Bombardier.
Aircraft industry feels the pinch of recession
As for Bombardier Aerospace, revenues totaled 2.2 billion dollars, compared to 2.4 billion dollars for the first quarter last fiscal year, while EBIT reached 110 million dollars. Bombardier Aerospace’s backlog stood at 22.4 billion dollars. Deliveries totaled 75 aircraft, compared to 87 for the same period last fiscal year.
The business aircraft industry as a whole is feeling the effect of the current recession, according to own statements. However, Bombardier Aerospace delivered 43 business jets during the first quarter of fiscal year 2010.
Bombardier Aerospace delivered a total of 31 regional jets and turboprops, compared to 28 for the same period last year.
In Romania, Bombardier Transportation supplied trains for the Bucharest Metro, as well as equipments for line 2 and close to deliver warning lighting system for line 1 and 3 of 300 million euros, the company said in 2008.
