President Traian Basescu participated today in the ceremony that marked the end of his first term as head of state, in the car that was waiting to escort him and his wife Maria to the Parliament to take the oath of office for the second time.
Traian Basescu received the military honors from the Ceremonial Honor Guard for his five-year presidential mandate. After the playing of the national anthem, he received the Flag Salute.
The president-elect then went to the Parliament to take the oath of office for the second presidential term.
According to the Constitution, the oath that Traian Basescu will take is "I solemnly swear that I will dedicate all my strength and the best of my abilities for the spiritual and material welfare of the Romanian people, to abide by the Constitution and laws of the country, to defend democracy, the fundamental rights and freedoms of my fellow citizens, Romania's sovereignty, independence, unity and territorial integrity. So help me God!”
