Leu falls slightly against euro

The benchmark exchange rate settled by the National Bank of Romania climbed 0.18 percent to 4.2231 lei per euro, after the national currency depreciated in the first part of the session in line with the emerging currencies, which lost ground versus the euro following investors' aversion towards risks, NewsIn informs.

NBR posted an exchange rate of 4.2157 lei per euro in the previous session.

The euro rose gradually this morning and soared from 4.22 to 4.2280 lei in mid-session. At 1:10 p.m. banks were buying an euro with 4.2201 lei and selling it for 4.2291 lei.

In the region, the Polish zloty plummeted from 4.0850 to 4.11 versus the European currency, while the Hungarian forint slipped from 271.40 to 272.50 per euro, and then inched to 272.

For the U.S. dollar, NBR's exchange rate advanced 0.69 percent to 2.9554 lei per dollar, from 2.9351 in the previous session.
