Bombardier interested in local tram market

The Canada-based manufacturer of aerospace and rail transportation solutions, Bombardier, has expressed its interest in Romanian tram market, which is currently evaluated at 150-200 units, the required number of units to meet the mobility needs in Bucharest, Timisoara, Arad and Iasi.

In Romania, Bombardier Transportation was responsible for the in-house design, installation and commissioning of metro train solutions that include computer-based interlocking, screen control rooms, switch point machines, equipment with jointless audio frequency coded track circuits and automatic train protection, for Line 2 and 3 worth €300 million.

In the last quarter of 2008, Bombardier supplied Metrorex with the last wagon of the 264 metro wagons /44 trains.

Bombardier is the world leader in nine of the eleven segments it operates in (trams/light rail vehicles, metros, commuter and regional trains, electric locomotives, bogies, propulsion and control systems, services and systems).

The Swedish state railway, SJ AB has awarded Bombardier Transportation a contract for the preventive maintenance of 55 new high-speed trains Regina X. The rail vehicles were ordered in 2008 from Bombardier.

The contract is valued at approximately €10 million and was concluded for a five-year period.

The maintenance support services for the new fleets will be provided at the SJ AB car barn in Stockholm. This contract will help Bombardier increase presence in the maintenance market in Sweden.

Bombardier Transportation is based in Berlin, Germany, and is present in more than 60 countries. It has an installed base of 100,000 vehicles worldwide.
