The official exchange rate set by the National Bank of Romania soared 0.68 percent to 4.2782 lei per euro, the highest since March, as the national currency continued to drop in the early trades following political uncertainty pressing investors to take greater caution, NewsIn informs.
NBR last posted such a high exchange rate on March 25, when the euro was traded for 4.2838 lei. The national currency stood at 4.2495 per euro yesterday.
The single European currency was traded for 4.2585 lei this morning, but hiked to 4.29 after the first transactions. The leu inched slightly afterwards and recovered to 4.27 per euro, but fell to 4.28 in mid-session. At 1:15 p.m. banks were buying a euro for 4.2739 lei and selling it for 4.2829 lei.
In the region, Hungary's forint cheapened from 270.75 to 271.75 versus the euro this morning, while the Polish zloty climbed from 4.2950 to 4.2375 per euro, only to fell at 4.25 afterwards.
For the U.S. dollar, NBR’s exchange rate rose 0.86 percent to 2.9414 lei per dollar, from 2.9163 in the previous session.
