Today we released our preliminary financial results for fiscal 2008. A key figure is the operating result: We achieved an adjusted EBIT amounting to �1,837.3 million, or 7.6% of sales. The previous year, i.e. prior to integration of the Siemens-VDO activities, the corresponding figure was 11.1%. This development is due to the exceptionally dire economic situation. To be sure, the operating result posted by Continental for 2008 is quite respectable in view of the extremely adverse conditions overall and in comparison with the competition. Once again we showed that we are strong � and you are mainly deserving of credit for this! I should like to join my colleagues on the Executive Board in thanking you for your commitment. We hold you in great esteem for this achievement � all the more so as 2008 was an extraordinary year in many ways, and one that made major demands on all of us.
