Today’s USD/RON rate is the lowest since December 31 2008, when the dollar was traded for 2.8342 lei. For the single European currency, the exchange rate is the lowest since October 1, when the leu stood at 4.2495 per euro.

In the morning, the euro was traded for 4.2680 lei, but the national soon strengthened to 4.2550. At 1:50 p.m. banks were buying a euro with 4.2560 lei and selling it for 4.2610 lei.

Leu’s regional peers had similar evolutions. The Polish zloty grew from 4.12 to 4.0980 versus the euro and then slipped to 4.1160, while Hungary's forint inched from 267.80 to 267 and then tumbled to 267.60 per euro.
