In November, retail trade shrank by a seasonally-adjusted annual rate of 9%.
In the last month of 2009, the biggest decrease was observed in “automotive fuel in specialized stores” – 15.4%, followed by “non-food” – 10.9%, and “food, drinks and tobacco” – 5.1%.
Compared to November, retail trade turnover adjusted by seasonality and working days fell 5.6% in December, as “food, drinks and tobacco” dropped 2.7%, and “non-food” turnover slumped 10.9%.
However, the turnover of automotive fuel retailing in specialized stores jumped 4.6% from a month earlier.
In gross series, the turnover of retail trade increased 9.6% from November.
In 2009, retail trade turnover adjusted by seasonality and working days fell 10.4% on sharp declines observed in “automotive fuel in specializes stores” category (-19.1%) and non-food (-9.4%). Sales of food, drinks and tobacco rose 3.3%.
In gross series, retail trade turnover for 2009 dropped 10.3% year-on-year.
Retail trade shrank 6.1% in December
Retail trade turnover fell 6.1% in December from the same period of 2008, weighed down by fuel sales and food & non-food, data from the National Institute of Statistics show.
