Wizz Air flies to one new destination this summer

Wizz Air, one of the leading low-fare airlines in the local market, said it would expand its route network in the 2009 summer timetable by launching the first weekly low-cost flight to Plama de Mallorca from Cluj Napoca in June 13 - September 19.

The route is a premiere for the airline carrier as well, as this is the first seasonal flight from Romanian Wizz Air’s hub.

“Launching this route is an important step in the development process of the low-fare airline industry in Romania. Our objective is to carry about 4,500 passengers in this route”, said Natasha Kazmer, Head of Corporate Communication and Public Affairs.

The tickets are available online on wizzair.com or via phone. The price starts from 229 lei, all taxes included.

Wizz Air is currently operating flights from Cluj-Napoca to Barcelona, Rome, London, Dortmund, Milan, Valencia and Paris.

Wizz Air fleet comprises 21 Airbus A320 wide-body aircrafts and operates flights from Poland, Hungary, Bulgaria, Croatia, and Romania to various destinations from Europe. The carrier has recently launched internal flights in Ukraine.

Wizz Air entered Romanian market in July 2006 and established the first operational airbase in Bucharest in June 2007 and second one in Cluj, in May 2008. The third hub will be set up in Timisoara, in February 2009.
The low-fare airline aims at carrying 1.7 million passengers this year from and to Romania, doubling its fleet for local airbases.

Wizz Air carried nearly 900,000 passengers in and to Romania in 2008, marking a 148% growth from prior year. The company included 10 new routes in and to Romania last year and opened the second Wizz Air hub in Romania at Cluj Napoca and provided the local market with two more Airbus A320 aircrafts .

Globally, Wizz Air carried 5.9 million passengers in the network, 42% more than in 2007. The low-cost operator launched last year new flights to more than 40 new destinations.
