Mercedes sold 339 cars in the first quarter compared to 642 in the same period last year, 399 commercial vehicles versus 1,597 and 48 minibuses over 87 last year.
Sales of Mitsubishi Fuso Canter fell 80 percent year-on-year, from 25 to 5 units, while those of Jeep by 62 percent, from 89 to 34 units. The smallest drops were recorded in smart range and Dodge, with 15 units sold in the first quarter versus 17 units in prior-year period, and respectively 84 units versus 110.
Chrysler was the only one to witness higher sales in the first three month, from 30 to 37 units.
The best selling models belonging to Mercedes-Benz were ML with 75 units, E-Klasse with 70 units and C-Klasse with 57 units. Jeep sold 14 Jeep Grand Cherokee and 10 Jeep Wrangler, Chrysler 32 units of Chrysler Sebring and Dodge 35 units of Avenger type.
Mercedes-Benz Romania cannot set a target for this year due to the economic situation on the local market. The company had a turnover of roughly 396 million euros in 2008.
The carmaker delivered in March 28 the new models E-Klasse and aims at releasing the new E-Klasse Coupe in May, the S-Klasse facelift in June and Mercedes-Benz GL facelift in July.
Mercedes-Benz counts a distribution network of 31 units.
